I have recently included the ‘location’ field in the search form which appears on the explore page. But when I act as a user I find it’s not very user-friendly. It works better if I ignore the drop down of street addresses that google maps automatically generates, and just click search or enter after I have typed the town name or a street name.
Is it possible to disable the drop down of street addresses? (using custom code I guess). Or is it simply not possible? Or is there some other solution you can suggest to make the drop down work better?
In the screen shot shows an example where I have entered the text “oamaru” which is the name of a town in North Otago region. But the drop down gives the impression that the only options are three different road names which are in totally different towns.
Another example is, if I enter the text “harbour” in the location field the map automatically zooms to two shop locations on Harbour Street in Oamaru which is great (screen shot below) but if I click the drop down option for the correct street address (“Harbour St, South Hill, Oamaru, New Zealand”) the map zooms out to show the scale of the whole world… i.e it doesn’t know where to zoom the map anymore and can’t find any results = not helpful (last screen shot below).
