I reached the point where I am able to use the tinyMCE wordcount plugin to display the word count of text entered into the tinyMCE text area (description field in the add listing form).
Since the myListing theme limits text here by the number of characters, this is not of much use.
According to the tinyMCE wordcount documentation, clicking on “word count” in the editor should toggle between number of words and number of characters, but the phrase “word count” is not displayed, clicking on “words” has no effect, and I am unable to add word count to the toolbar.
Below I describe what I’ve done to get the total words to display. Maybe the theme developers can offer some advice for how to get the display in characters.
- Downloaded the tinyMCE wordcount plugin using this configuration tool. (Checking only “wordcount”)
- From the downloaded configuration, uploaded the wordcount directory to: wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins
- Edited wp-content/themes/my-listing/templates/add-listing/form-fields/wp-editor-field.php to add the wordcount plugin on line 18. Like this:
'plugins' => 'lists,paste,tabfocus,wplink,wordpress,wordcount',
