I’ve been reading the documentation around listings and categories, however i’m not entirely clear on the best use of these for the structure of my data.
I am looking to have listings for cafes, restaurants, hotels, yoga studios etc.
Many of the details of each will be the same but I would like to provide customised fields so as to avoid as much confusion for the business owners when claiming the page. For example I would only like check in and check out times to be a field present for hotels. For this reason I am leaning towards using listings.
The downside to this is there doesn’t appear to be a way to globally search across different listing types. Is this accurate?
For example I want a site visitor to be able to search in the primary search bar on the homepage without having to pre-select a category. This is important to me as many listing types such as cafe and restaurants are very similar (with the exception of a few additional fields).
Is the structure I want possible or should I revert to categories and live with the mild inconvenience of having some fields that are not relevant to all business owners within that listing type?
Some high level guidance would be much appreciated.
